Announcements
A new Advanced Certification Exam is on course to create the profession's first career pathway. Sandy sat in on the eligibility committee and is playing an important role in the development of this exam.
NCBTMB is happy to announce that National Certification for Advanced Practice (NCAP) is well along in the development process, and will be the first credential to enable accomplished practitioners to differentiate themselves in the massage marketplace. Soon, discerning employers and members of the conventional and integrative healthcare arenas will be able to hire practitioners based on a certified, advanced level of experience and expertise.
Completely voluntary, NCAP will build upon the educational, experiential and ethical requirements of NCBTMB's current National Certification.* Those who go on to earn the advanced credential will be nationally recognized for possessing the critical thinking skills necessary to function in complex situations. They will also be respected for their ability to work in a team environment utilizing treatment plans based on research-informed outcomes. Simply stated, NCAP practitioners will offer the advanced capabilities sought out by clients, employers and healthcare providers.
How NCAP can benefit educators, continuing education providers and practitioners
NCAP has the potential to take the profession — educators, providers of CE, advanced practitioners and those who seek to employ advanced therapists — to a new level within the healthcare community. Potential benefits of the advanced credential are many, and include:
Practitioners
- Increases marketability and potential earning power
- Provides additional opportunities in conventional, integrative and clinical healthcare settings
- Differentiates advanced practitioners from entry-level therapists
Employers
- Assists employers in identifying advanced practitioners for careers in conventional and integrative healthcare
- Connects advanced therapists of all modalities to positions with high-level employers

Review for the National Certification Exam — Recommendations from Sandy
We often get requests for a review class to help review for the National Certification Exam. It is typically not effective to take a class to review. We have tried and I think it is a waste of your money. You cannot get any continuing education credit for review courses anyway. Instead you need a review program consisting of self study and a small study group. Use the New editions of Fundamentals of Therapeutic Massage and Essential Sciences. See sandyfritz.info for links to these books. Also get the review guide. NO ONE can guarantee that you will pass. Do not fall for that BS.
Click on the books below to be taken to the corresponding Amazon.com page.
This investment will be about $125 and you will have great resources after you pass the exam. Most people spend much more than this on a review class.
Find a study partner or two and work together.
Work through all the workbook activities, watch the dvds , read the glossaries, log on to the evolve sites and do the chapter activities. Instructions on how to do this are in the front of the books.
Keep us posted on how you do.
