The Advanced Practitioner Program (AP) is considered to be an intermediate-level program for expanded job opportunities in the career of therapeutic massage. Earning the designation of AP better prepares the massage practitioner to deal with a more complex set of problems presented by the client which then provides an opportunity for an intermediate-level employment in a broader job market such as sports, fitness, health services, and the medical environment. Specific focus is placed on assessment skills, care plan development, and clinical skills necessary to work successfully with special populations and complex conditions.
You are required to complete 475 hours of supervised classroom practicum experience at HEC, Inc.'s designated practicum sites. The students will begin practicum experience within the first weeks of class.
Four areas of concentration are offered:
- General Practice
- Medical
- Sports and Fitness
- Instructional Strategies
Students may attend more clinical practicum hours to increase competency if they desire with no additional fees. Any clinical practicum hours completed that exceed the full 750 hour course requirement of the AP Program can be applied to Clinical Practicum requirements of the Master Bodywork program if the student enrolls in the Master Bodywork Program the next course year.
All students must be prepared to travel to clinical sites and travel, lodging and supplies are the responsibility of the student. Supplies include 6 sets of draping material, table, approved lubricant, bolsters and hand sanitizer.
